Your Own Seedbox and Media Server: The Starter Checklist
Coming soon

Thinking about renting a seedbox, or turning an old PC into a media server? Go through this checklist before you pay, on the first day, and once a month after that.
Inside (printable PDF, 5 pages plus cover, A4):
- Do you need one at all? Shared seedbox, home server, private server or plain cloud storage, side by side.
- Choosing a provider: storage, traffic limits, apps, video power, terms of service, refunds, and the red flags.
- Keep it legal: what content you can use (your own files, open-source software, public-domain and Creative Commons media).
- First-day security: passwords, two-step login, HTTPS, users and updates.
- Jellyfin, step by step: folders, file names, libraries, apps on your TV and phone.
- Backups, costs and leaving: the 3-2-1 rule, a monthly check, and moving to another provider.
Print as many copies as you need for yourself.
What this is not: it does not list download sites, torrent or Usenet indexes, and does not explain how to break DRM or copy protection. It covers legal uses only: your own files, media you own or are licensed to use, open-source software, public-domain and Creative Commons works. See our acceptable use rules.
